Billy Moyer Jr. of Pine Grove convincingly won the 20-lap Sportsman feature, and Ryan Olenick of Forestville posted back-to-back victories after winning the 20-lap Wooden Keg Tavern Roadrunner main event.
Watt started from the sixth position and passed early race leader Kevin Albert, Jr. for the top spot on a lap three restart. Seven caution flags took place during the opening five laps, and Watt remained in control during each restart. John Willman who started fourth and current points leader Craig Von Dohren (from 14th) each moved past Albert on the event’s eighth circuit. Willman actually glanced to the inside of Watt on a lap nine restart, but Watt denied the challenge.
The final caution flag period took place with ten laps remaining. Watt, driving his #14W with horse power from HP Motorsports, continued to set the pace while Willman, Von Dohren and Albert raced in positions two through four. Rick Laubach passed Albert for the fourth spot on lap 19, and Ryan Godown advanced ahead of Albert with time running out.
Watt claimed his fourth career BDR victory by a comfortable margin while Willman (Birdsboro) captured a season’s best of second over two-time feature winner Von Dohren (Boyertown). Laubach (Hellertown) and Godown (Ringoes NJ) rounded out the top five. Albert (Lebanon) finished sixth ahead of former track champion Jeff Strunk (Mohnton), third generation racer Billy Pauch Jr. (Frenchtown NJ), Gary Hager (Stewartsville NJ) and Addison Meitzler (Kutztown).
The Sportsman A-Main began on a wild note when leader John Kovatch IV went around in front of the field, but luckily only two other cars were involved in the incident. Moyer, who began from second, inserted his #17 into the race lead and was virtually never challenged throughout the event’s entire distance.
Moyer missed a few races due to mechanical issues and had been struggling until this past Friday evening. He became the 12th different Sportsman feature winner in a wide open 2010 racing season. It was Moyer’s eighth career BDR triumph, which ranks sixth on the all-time Sportsman victory list.
A caution with two laps remaining established an exciting two-car battle for the runner-up spot which went to second generation talent Jared Umbenhauer (Richland) closely over three-time track champion Craig Whitmoyer (Hamburg), who started fifteenth. Mike Lisowski Jr. (Minersville) was racing in the runner-up position until lap 16, and later settled for a fourth place effort. Current points leader Mike Loney (Taylor) rounded out the front finishing five.
Joe Kavanaugh led the opening 13-laps of the Roadrunner feature. Marc Berzowski, who started sixth, took command on the 14th lap. Meanwhile, previous week’s race winner Ryan Olenick was making an impressive sweep through the field from his fourteenth place starting position. R. Olenick pressured Berzowski for several laps and grabbed the top spot while racing on the outside groove of lap 18.
R. Olenick captured his fourth career BDR feature win with Berzowski (Branchdale) holding off Tommy Hablett (Schuylkill Haven) for the runner-up spot. Twice a winner this season, Elvin Brennan (Forestville), finished fourth and new points leader Ricky Bender (Joliett) made a late race maneuver into the fifth position.
As a full moon lurked over the Forestville oval, there were two flip victims on the night. Nate Klinger rolled his machine over several times in the Roadrunner main event. Andy Fayash Jr. also went upside-down in the Sportsman feature. Both drivers were uninjured.
This Friday July 2 is Ken’s Tire Night featuring an appearance of the Big Foot Monster Truck. The 358 Modifieds will battle in a 35-lap feature worth $3000 to win. The Sportsman and Roadrunners are also on the card. Gates open at 5:00PM with racing beginning at 7:45PM.
