CRAIG VON DOHREN AND RANDY STOUDT WIN BPG RACING DON MARKS MEMORIAL NIGHT FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW
(Track Press Release) BECHTELSVILLE, PA – “I found the top worked though I could have stuck it (the race car) in the fence anytime,” said Craig Von Dohren in victory lane after winning the 30-lap BPG Racing Don Marks Memorial NASCAR 358 Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. “It was a good car. We are not points racing, we come here every week looking to win.” And win he did for the fifth time this season he was able to take home the $2,200 top prize on a Saturday night. Randy Stoudt was able to drive the No. 610 Late Model, owned by his uncle Jim, to his second win of the season in the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model feature.

Jeremy Banos took the lead on the drop of the green for the 28-car Modified feature starting field. Banos held on to the top spot until the fourth circuit when Jason Smythe was able to take the lead. With nine circuits completed Jon Kellner Sr went to the front and looked as if he was on his way to ending a long victory dry spell. At 17 laps Von Dohren, who had started in 23rd position, was now a factor and putting some heavy pressure on the leader. A few laps later, after a caution restart, Von Dohren (Boyertown) was able to charge to the front and lead the rest of the way to grab the win his 76th regular career victory at the Berks County oval.
Duane Howard, the current NASCAR 358 Modified point leader, finished second. The Oley racer started 21st in the 28 car feature field. Jon Kellner Sr. (Lansdale) finished third after a strong showing with the Banes Roofing No. 20. Kevin Hirthler (Boyertown) finished in fourth followed by Mike Gular (East Greenville).
A first lap caution wiped out two of the pre-race favorites with Randall Paxton and Danny Snyder going to the pits after a front straightaway tangle. On the restart Nate Christman went to the front with three feature winner Ron Kline moving to second spot to challenge early. On the sixth lap point leader Brian Shuey was involved in a first turn incident that put him out of action and on the restart Ron Kline was the leader.
With 13 laps in the record book Mike Kellner charged to the front and looked as if he was on the way to his second win of the season. With just two laps remaining Kellner got caught on the outside in turn two and that allowed Randy Stoudt to go to the front and lead the rest of the way for his second win of the season.
In victory lane Stoudt (Pottstown) pointed out that the car he was driving was actually a car he had owned and sold to his uncle. It was a car that he had driven to about 30 wins when it carried the number 22.
Second spot went to Mike Kellner (Lansdale) followed by Ron Kline (Salford), Chuck Schutz (Pottstown) and Nate Christman (Oley).
Brian Shuey continues to lead the Late Model point standings by just three points over past champion Chuck Schutz.
Qualifying heat wins for the 358 Modifieds were won by Todd Smith, Jordan Umbenhauer, Mike Gular and Ryan Godown. The consolations were won by Duane Howard, topping Craig VonDohren, and Kyle Follweiler.In the Late Model qualifiers wins went to Mike Kellner, Randall Paxton and Danny Snyder.
Special awards during the night included: Bobby Gunther Walsh Hard Charger Awards to Craig VonDohren in the Modified feature and Randy Stoudt in the Late Models.
Racer’s Roundtable Radio Show Hard Luck Awards were earned by A.J. DeSantis in the Modifieds and John Giesler in the Late Models.
The Don Marks Memorial Keep Racing On Awards went to Jason Smythe as the highest finished in the Modified feature not in the top 15 in point standings. The same award went to Nate Christman in the Late Models as the highest finisher in the feature not in the top ten in point standings.
The weekly Cargo Trailer Sales Tenth Place Awards went to Jeremy Banos in the Modifieds and Doug Walton in the Late Models.
Dan’s Deli presented Halfway Leader Awards to Ron Kline in the Late Model feature and Jon Kellner Sr. in the Modified feature.Coming up on Saturday, July 3rd at 7:30 p.m. is the annual Fireworks 40 for Late Models (paying $5,000 to win) and NASCAR 358 Modifieds. Also part of the C.J.High & Associates LLC sponsored night will be a wonderful FIREWORKS show. Four lucky youngsters will go home bicycles courtesy of Late Model racer Kory Fleming and his sponsors.
The holiday weekend will also include a Sunday, July 4th show starting at 2 p.m. and featuring the NEETS Enduro racing along with SpeedSTRs.
