“We needed to win one,” said Strunk in victory lane. “The track was awesome tonight. Duane (Howard) is tough as nails here, I was glad to beat him.”
When asked about racing with his brother Strunk said “It brought back memories of when we were youngsters, 8 and 10 years old, racing go-karts.”
“Professor” Glenn Strunk got the classes attention when he jumped out into the lead after battling Gary Hager in the first two circuits of the 30-lap Modified feature. Fan favorite Ryan Godown lost a wheel on the second lap and was out of action.
John Willman challenged Glenn early but on the ninth lap lost second spot to Glenn’s older brother Jeff who then spent the next dozen laps chasing “The Professor” before being able to charge by on the outside in the fourth turn after Glenn made a minor miscue.
Once in front the eight time track champion was able to hold off a strong challenge from point leader Duane Howard (Oley) who had won the first two features of the season to gain the win. Third spot went to six time track champion Craig VonDohren (Boyertown). John Willman (Birdsboro) had been having some early season problems but came back strong to finish fourth followed by Meme DeSantis (Temple). Strunk (Bechtelsville) started 12th in the feature race while Duane Howard came from 14th starting position.
Thirty one Modifieds started the feature with two racers taking provisional starting spots (Terry Meitzler and Kyle Follweiler) based on top ten point positions.
Despite losing his brakes early in the race Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) was able to take the lead on the first lap, survive a couple of multi car tangles during the first two laps, and then lead the balance of the future to get his first Late Model feature win of the season.
“With the brakes going I was not able to get off the low groove without spinning,” said Stoudt as he celebrated the win in victory lane.
Second spot went to early season feature winner Danny Snyder (Green Lane) while David Ogin (Bechtelsville), a newcomer to racing at Grandview, was able to grab an impressive third place finish. Past champion John Giesler (Aston) came home fourth followed by Chuck Schutz (Pottstown).
